Discussion Takeaways

  • The people who grow and serve our food cannot afford to feed themselves.
  • Layers of privilege make food injustice invisible.
  • System thinking allows us to consider all contributors to a problem, like social, racial, economic, and physical injustice.
  • Just because something is desirable to you, doesn’t mean it is wanted by your patient or client.
  • We must include the people we serve in the dialogue from the beginning.
  • There is power in admitting you are wrong.
  • There is potential in being wrong, and that’s not a weakness. From our mistakes, we can learn to ask better questions to find the best, community-driven solutions.
  • Nobody asks for hunger.
