Discussion Takeaways
- College students are vital to any service, volunteer opportunities, and can act as a crucial connector to community resources.
- People who come through the food line at the food pantry are often classified as “those people”. But, they could easily be any one of us.
- Federal income requirements for receiving benefits like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) are so strict. People living right over the poverty threshold often have to choose between paying for their car repairs, medical bills, or food.
- Serving with everyone at the food pantry gives Kelly a sense of kindness and hope in the world. The team’s work helps those who give, just as much as the receivers.
