Episode #3 of 6: What Is It Like to Be Misunderstood?
About the Podcast
This is part three of a 6-part series walking you through Clancy Harrison’s process of questioning her assumptions that hinder the access to healthful foods for all. In this 10-minute “Candid Clancy” episode, she asks you to cultivate a spirit of openness and inclusion. Moving forward, we need to commit to seeing those who are misunderstood.

She transforms the lives of thousands of people through her work with corporations, non-profit organizations, and universities.
Currently, Clancy is an advisory board member for the Pennsylvania American Academy of Pediatrics Food Insecurity EPIC program, Ambassador of the National Dairy Council, and the President of the Al Beech West Side Food Pantry. Since the onset of COVID-19 Clancy has distributed nearly 1 million meals in her community to improve access to healthy food through effective collaborations.
Discussion Takeaways
- Here is Clancy’s challenge for you:

-
- Ask yourself: Have your assumptions, projections from your lived experience, and your misconceptions made someone feel misunderstood? Think about when that has happened.

-
- Listen to another person with the intention of fully understanding them. Do not try to respond.

#1 tip to improve access to healthy food
- Clancy owns up to being a healthcare professional who projected her beliefs onto her patients. By doing this, she made people feel misunderstood.
