Discussion Takeaways
- Farm insecurity is a common problem among farm workers. There is a disconnect in the wellness industry, especially diet culture, with undocumented farm workers.
- The wellness industry, particularly the healthcare industry, needs to unlearn some ideas to avoid harming the communities they serve.
- Health is more than just the number on the scale or what people eat. It also involves social determinants of health.
- Privilege is not a bad word. People often don't recognize the social advantages that come from their social identities.
- By sharing your experiences, you allow others to see your humanity and understand your perspective. This acknowledgment of humanity is missing in our society.
- There are various social determinants of health, such as the community you live in, pollution, violence at home, access to education, and the environment.
- Food dignity means treating people with respect, recognizing their humanity, understanding their background, and refraining from judgment.
